Enhancing Early Childhood Development, Itinerant Care and Deaf Education in Aruba

Kentalis International Foundation is involved in supporting early childhood development and education for children with hearing and language challenges on Aruba. In collaboration with local partners, we aim to provide educators and specialists with the tools and knowledge needed to better support these children.

Our Mission on Aruba

On Aruba, there is only one cluster-2 school (a specialized school for learners who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a Developmental Language Disorder), called Scucha Nos. This school specializes in educating children with cochlear implants, but also provides support to deaf and hard-of-hearing children who attend other schools on Aruba.

At Kentalis International Foundation, we have partnered with this school to enhance their support to these children. In our collaboration, we also worked with FEPOH, the Aruban foundation for the hearing impaired. The aim of our work on Aruba is to strenghten the quality of education for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

Project: Early Childhood Development and Itinerant Care

Kentalis International Foundation has set up a “blended” project collaboration with FEPOH, the Aruban foundation for hearing impaired, and Scucha Nos, the only cluster-2 school on the island. We set up a blended learning program, starting with online courses and followed by on-location training on Aruba.

Project Overview

  • Timing: August 2022 - December 2023
  • Location: Netherlands (online) and Oranjestad, Aruba
  • Funded by: Stichting Vrienden van Effatha
  • Partners: FEPOH, Scucha Nos

This project underscores our commitment to enhancing early childhood development and supporting educators and specialists on Aruba as they work to create inclusive learning environments for all children.

Future directions and collaboration

At this moment, we have no running projects on Aruba, but we do look forward to continuing our efforts on the island. We invite other organizations and educational institutions to join us in our mission to enhance education for deaf learners on Aruba. Together, we can break down communication barriers and create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children.
